‘Actions’ of the Hill Mynah

To learn about the actions of  my Asian vertebrae, I first did some research on the Internet to be able to answer the assigned questions. These were the sites I read to learn about my bird:

3.What two things might your animal do?

  1. It will talk but it is best at mimicking other humans, animals voices, noises and often can whistle a loud shrill. It also makes other calls.
  2. It is a very well adapted bird.  It can survive in lots of environments including cities and the jungle.

8.What sound does your animal make?

I think the Mynah talks quite well. If I compare it to the notes on my guitar, it can talk low and high. I have watched lots of videos and in each one it seems to have different sounds. So I read more about it and found this description on Wikipedia:

Whistles, wails, screeches, and gurgles, sometimes melodious and often very human-like in quality. Each individual has a repertoire between 3 and 13 such call types, which may be shared with some near neighbours of the same sex, being learned when young. There is a very rapid change of dialect with distance, such that birds living more than 15 km apart have no call-types in common with one another.

Even though all Hill Mynahs are capable of human speech, some are better than others. Some are able to talk with the same tones and clarity of speech as the human voice they mimic. The Hill Mynah has been described as the best talking bird in the world, indeed the champion of mimics!

9.Describe your animal using 5 adjectives

An adjective describes a noun. The Hill Mynah is:

  • Smart – because it can learn to mimic the sounds of others and most birds can’t do that. In fact, it is one of the top 10 smartest birds on earth
  • Silly – because you can teach it to say silly things that the human says
  • Loud – this is not a quiet, peaceful singing bird
  • Small – a Mynah is not big or a carnivore
  • Unique – because birds of the same kind living more than 15km apart sing differently

10.If your animal could talk, what would it say?

My favorite part about my asian vertebrate is that that it can answer this question by itself. Look at the video 😃👨‍👩‍👦‍👦🐣!
